Silicone hoses: types and temperatures

Silicone withstands temperatures that other materials cannot, from -60 °C to +200 °C, without losing flexibility and without imparting odour or taste. That is why it is used in two very different fields: the cooling, heating and turbo circuits of lorries and buses, and the aseptic transport of food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Frequently asked questions about silicone hoses

What temperature can a silicone hose withstand?

Vehicle hoses work from -60 °C to +180 °C and food hoses up to +200 °C. The turbo hose reaches +220 °C, and the Tecni HTD, made of glass fibre with silicone, reaches +260 °C, with peaks of +300 °C for a short time.

Which silicone hose is suitable for food?

Extruded SIL (FDA and BfR) and braided SIL and reinforced SIL, made of FDA silicone cured with platinum or peroxide. All three are for liquids and semi-liquids in delivery. You can also find them under silicone hoses for food use.

What is the difference between platinum-cured and peroxide-cured silicone?

Both are food grade. Platinum-cured silicone leaves no residues from the curing process, which is why it is preferred in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, where the highest purity is required.

What is the difference between the SIL 200 and the SIL 700?

They have the same material and the same temperatures. The SIL 700 also has steel wire and a corrugated outer, which give it the stiffness to make bends without kinking.

Are there silicone elbows and reducers?

Yes: 90º elbows with arms of 150 or 200 mm, reduced elbows and straight reducers, in reinforced blue silicone. They are used to join sections of different diameter in cooling and turbo circuits.
