Teflon hoses
At Tecniman we supply corrugated Teflon hoses, or smooth Teflon, covered with stainless steel or thermoplastic braid.

Teflon or PTFE hoses can have applications such as transferring and/or decanting compressed air, gas, steam, fossil fuels, petroleum products, corrosive chemicals or acids, etc.

Consult our expert advisers about the dimensions and sizes of the right hoses for the specific job of your company.

Teflon (PTFE) hose: types, pressures and temperatures

A Teflon hose has a PTFE inner tube, a chemically inert, non-stick material that withstands very high temperatures. It is used to convey corrosive chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, steam and gases. The pressure, diameter and flexibility depend on the outer reinforcement (stainless steel braid, EPDM rubber or thermoplastic layers).

Smooth or corrugated PTFE: how to choose

Smooth PTFE withstands more pressure: at 1/2" it works at 120 bar, compared with 110 bar for corrugated. Corrugated PTFE, on the other hand, bends much tighter (a 25 mm radius against 70 mm) and goes up to 2", making it better for runs with many bends.

Frequently asked questions about Teflon hoses

What temperature can a Teflon hose withstand?

PTFE hoses with stainless steel braid work from -70 °C to +260 °C and the Teflon tube reaches +250 °C. The PTFE hose with EPDM cover ranges from -40 °C to +150 °C.

Is PTFE hose suitable for food?

Most of them are. The stainless steel braided hoses and the EPDM-covered hose comply with the FDA standard, and the Teflon, FEP and PVDF tubes comply with FDA and BfR for water, drinks and food.

What is the difference between Teflon, FEP and PVDF tubing?

Teflon tubing is the most heat-resistant (+250 °C). FEP behaves like Teflon but is transparent and is chosen for UV sterilisation and for level systems with aggressive products. PVDF withstands up to +140 °C and is used in electronics, semiconductors and the medical, chemical and nuclear sectors.

Is there a Teflon hose for suction?

Yes: the smooth PTFE hose with EPDM cover has a steel helix and withstands a vacuum of 0.9 bar; the Standard Composite PTFE handles suction and delivery of chemicals up to 200 mm.

Which PTFE hose can I use in ATEX zones?

The smooth PTFE hose with EPDM cover: it is highly conductive and suitable for ATEX areas according to EN 12115:2021.
